Wave CD 444 Peter Ind – 60 Years with My Bass – Well Almost Wave 2008

Wave 444 Sixty years with my Bass Peter Ind’s double bass is a unique piece of history. In 1949, while working in a jazz band on the Queen Mary a steward offered him his father’s bass. When Peter went to collect it, it had  sustained damage during bombing and was in pieces. However, he realised it was a very antique instrument and paid a considerable amount – £20. After its repair, the sound was beautiful but acoustically inaudible but as. As Peter describes it, he and the bassist Tim Bell kept playing it and “gradually the sound came back into it as though its soul had returned” till it reached the tremendous strength it has now. It has been the instrument that he literally grew up with. This showcases various bass tracks– solo bass concert given by Peter at the University of California, Berkeley in 1965, tracks from a concert in Belgium in 2003 plus a trio with Tony Barnard and Matt Wates at the 606 club in Chelsea, London
